Friarielli, also known as baby turnip greens, are a traditional Italian leafy vegetable with a pleasantly bitter flavour, tender stems and rustic Mediterranean character.
Popular in Neapolitan and Southern Italian cooking, friarielli are especially delicious sautéed with extra virgin olive oil, garlic and chilli. Their earthy, slightly bitter flavour pairs beautifully with sausages, pork, pasta, pizza, beans, potatoes and simple Italian dishes.
A distinctive fresh green for restaurants, delis, fresh produce displays and authentic Italian cooking.
Serving suggestion:
Blanch briefly if needed, then sauté with olive oil, garlic and chilli until tender. Serve with Italian sausages, pasta, pizza, beans, potatoes or as part of an antipasti selection.
