Monteraponi is a medieval hamlet on a hill above Radda in Chianti, with roots in the tenth century. Michele Braganti's father bought it in 1974, and for years the family sold its grapes to others.
That changed when Michele and his wife Alessandra took on the vineyards: since 2003 every bottle has been their own. The grapes are picked by hand, fermented with their own yeasts in concrete and aged in large old oak casks, with the advice of the Tuscan winemaker Maurizio Castelli. The aim is finesse and lift rather than weight.
Certified organic. 12 hectares of vines up to 570 metres, on stony alberese and galestro, within an estate of woods and olive groves.
